The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and the Department of Pediatrics at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine seek a nationally recognized leader on either the clinician-educator or physician-investigator track to be Section Head of Oncology at the Associate Professor or Professor rank. This leadership position is supported by an endowed faculty position/chair in the Department of Pediatrics and additional leadership opportunities within the CCBD may be considered commensurate with experience and track record. We are especially interested in candidates with clinical and research interests in pediatric soft tissue sarcomas and other solid tumors.
The successful candidate should have a national/international reputation in the field of pediatric oncology and possess a vision for the growth of all aspects of a nationally recognized center of excellence, including its clinical, research, educational and advocacy missions. The qualified applicant will have a strong track record of research/scholarly productivity, experience in program development/operations and demonstrated mentoring and leadership skills.
The CCBD at Lurie Children’s Hospital is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report and comprise a total of 33 physician/physician scientist faculty, 2 PhD research faculty and 33 ambulatory and inpatient advanced practice providers across sections of Hematology, Oncology, Neuro-Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation: https://www.luriechildrens.org/en/specialties-conditions/pediatric-hematology-oncology/. We have a diverse federally funded, industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated research portfolio as well as actively participate in consortium-led studies in COG, Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium (PBTC), Pediatric Transplant and Cellular Therapy Consortium (PTCTC), North American Pediatric Aplastic Anemia Consortium (NAPAAC) among others. We also have an outstanding ACGME-accredited fellowship program with 10 to 11 current fellows and advanced fellows.
The CCBDOncology Section currently comprises 12 pediatric oncologists and 8 advanced practice providers who collaborate with a dedicated team of pediatric surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists as well as ancillary service providers. The section has established programs focused on hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, cancer predisposition, fertility preservation, adolescent young adult cancer care and cancer survivorship. The section engages in clinical trials through investigator-initiated efforts and national collaborations as well as participates in consortia such as the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), the COG Pediatric Early Phase-Clinical Trial Network (PEP-CTN), Therapeutic Advances in Childhood Leukemia (TACL), and North American Consortium for Histiocytosis. The section also leads programs in basic/translational and patient outcomes research.
Applicants must have an M.D., D.O., M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree and be board-certified in pediatric hematology/oncology and advanced training in pediatric oncology. Academic rank will be determined by track record and experience. Qualified candidates will have strong leadership skills and the ability to work with teams on patient focused, division-centric, and hospital-wide initiatives. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.
The start date is negotiable and the position will remain open until filled.
The expected base pay range for this position is $212,582-325,000.
