This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. License: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Staff Physician. None beyond the basic requirements. The individual must qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified the individual to perform general duties and some specialized functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine Preferred Experience: Board Certification in Hematology/Oncology highly desired. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Light lifting, light carrying, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking, standing, both legs required, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, both eyes required, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades of colors, hearing (aid permitted), emotional/mental stability, emotional fatigue, ability to communicate orders, near/far correctable vision, prosthetic leg permissible, prosthetic are permissible. Work in a dry atmospheric condition, working closely with other, working alone and protracted or irregular hours of work. ["VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. The Hematology/Oncology Physician shall provide care at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center. All labor and services shall be provided including management, supervision, teaching, consultations and reports. Major duties/functions included but are not limited to: Physician's clinical activity shall be a function of the VAMC Executive Committee of the Medical Staff clinical privileging process. Provides direct hands-on patient care including evaluation and treatment of the hematology/oncology patients, determination whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting, and management of chronic disease. Comprehensive initial medical/psychosocial history and physical examination Order appropriate diagnostic tests and work-up Review and interpret diagnostic tests and take appropriate action Formulate and record diagnostic impressions Refer patients with appropriate consultations both within the VA and in the community Provide clinical guidance to patients, families and other health care providers over the phone, secure messaging or through the mail to coordinate health care, educate and give advice Ensure accurate documentation of medical assessments, interactions and observations. Responsible for supervising and teaching medical residents and students. May be required to oversee mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants Enter orders into CPRS for medications, consults, testing etc. Demonstrates current clinical practice Attend Medical Center and community meetings, seminars, conferences Establishes inter-personal and intra-departmental relationships to enhance optimal patient care Demonstrates competent and effective oral and written communication and provides appropriate patient/family member teaching and education. Maintains familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and procedures, ensuring the use of antiseptic methods of all in-clinic procedures Other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday; 8:00AM - 4:30PM, however, Call off hours and on weekend split with other hematologist-oncologist."]
