One of the leading pediatric cancer facilities on the West Coast, and the only provider of pediatric hematology and oncology services between Los Angeles and the Bay Area, Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist with additional fellowship training Pediatric Neuro-Oncology to join the growing practice in Madera, California. Named again in 2022 as one of 10 Top Children’s Hospitals in the nation by The Leapfrog Group for its excellence in patient safety and quality of care, Valley Children’s is also ranked once more as one of the nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals in seven specialties by U.S. News & World Report in 2023-24.

The multidisciplinary team at Valley Children’s includes pediatric neurologists and pediatric neurosurgeons, a team which has been recognized as one of the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report again in 2023-24 in caring or children, infants, and adolescents with suspected or confirmed neurologic disorders, including brain tumors.

The Neuro-Oncology team cares for 40-50 newly diagnosed brain tumor patients annually. In addition, a multi-disciplinary Neurofibromatosis clinic has been established to provide comprehensive care to these patients. As a member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), the team has access to the latest protocols for treating brain and CNS tumors. Physicians collaborate closely with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) as contributors or co-investigators in advanced clinical studies.

About Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center

Over seven decades ago, five young mothers imagined building a hospital just for kids in California’s Central Valley.  The mothers’ dream not only expanded into a 358-bed free-standing children’s hospital with nationally recognized physicians and programs, but it is also now an entire healthcare network that serves more than 1.3 million children in the heart of California.

Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, including an outpatient unit and 36-bed inpatient unit, provides the breadth of specialized services and depth of experience to treat the most common to the rarest pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions.  With state-of-the-art treatment protocols and clinical trials, the team saw more than 180 newly diagnosed oncology cases with 13,923 patient visits (7,946 oncology and 5,977 hematology) and 4,020 unique patients (1,453 oncology and 2,587 hematology) in the 2022 fiscal year. Because of the growth in both hematology and oncology, the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is now staffed with five nurse practitioners and twelve board-certified pediatric hematologists and oncologists who have been trained at top institutions around the world.Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center ranks in the 95th percentile for the number of patients enrolled in Children’s Oncology Group clinical trials and is one of only 141 federally funded hemophilia treatment centers in the country. Through enhanced therapies and supportive care, Valley Children’s cancer patient cure rates average 85%.

Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center incorporates comprehensive programs in Leukemia/Lymphoma, Solid Tumors, Neuro-Oncology, Histiocytic Disorders and Childhood Cancer Survivorship. In 2022, Valley Children's was one of the top enrolling sites for the Centers for Disease Control and Preservation Community Counts Hemophilia Project in the Western States, Region IX with 179 participants for the performance period ending in September 2022. Valley Children’s has also received membership by invitation to the Pacific Sickle Cell Research Consortium and the American Society of Hematology Research Collaborative. Further details regarding the Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center are available at https://www.valleychildrens.org/cancer-and-blood-diseases/cancer-and-blood-diseases-home. The Valley Children’s network includes five specialty care centers in Visalia, Modesto, Merced, Bakersfield, and Sacramento, and maintains a pediatric residency program and partnership with Stanford Children’s Health. Hematology physicians see patients at the Bakersfield and Modesto specialty care centers and provide telemedicine support for the specialty care centers in Modesto and Bakersfield to improve access to high-quality care in the Central Valley.

About the Area

Joining Valley Children’s growing hematology oncology team also provides the opportunity to live in the only city in the country with three U.S. National Parks in its backyard, and within easy driving distance to California’s Pacific Coast, the Napa and Sonoma wine regions, San Francisco, and Lake Tahoe. California’s Central Valley is home to the majestic splendor of Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, so if you’re an outdoor enthusiast, you will feel like you have truly found home here. And when you're not exploring the Sierra Nevada mountains, Pacific Coast or all the amenities offered in the Los Angeles and Bay areas, you'll enjoy residing in a beautiful, affordable area with excellent schools, friendly neighborhoods, and an exceptional quality of life.

This position offers tremendous potential for professional growth as well as a highly competitive financial compensation package, including signing bonus and relocation allowance. For complete details and confidential consideration for this exceptional opening, please contact Glenda Church Smith, Principal, Pediatric Search Partners at glenda@pediatricsearchpartners.com, call (877) 440-3832 or text to (214) 850-3094.
