Description

The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory University Department of Pediatrics invites qualified applicants to apply for an outstanding independent scientist position specialized in the area of Hemostasis and Thrombosis (HT), to join our faculty at the rank of Associate or full Professor with or without tenure. The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center HT program is one of the premier programs in the nation consisting of a large clinical program and a diverse research program. The research program includes basic, clinical, and translational research that is well funded including multiple R01s, K-awards, and a NIH U54 grant on the immunogenicity of factor VIII. The division also has a T32 training grant for hematology. The candidate should bring a research focus that compliments and builds on our existing foundation. Candidates will have the opportunity to join graduate programs at Emory University and recruit graduate students to their laboratories.

This position offers a wealth of opportunities for research collaborations within the Department of Pediatrics, Winship Cancer Institute, Grady Hospital as well as with Emory basic science departments, the Rollins School of Public Health, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse School of Medicine and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Candidates should hold current appointments at the Associate Professor or Professor level. Successful candidates will have:* MD, MD/PhD, or PhD * If MD, must have Board Certification in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology* If MD, must be currently licensed as a physician and eligible for licensure as a physician in the State of Georgia* National recognition in an area of science or technology that is predicted to be at the forefront of Hemostasis and Thrombosis research for the foreseeable future* Strong record of scientific accomplishments and proven success in obtaining extra-mural funding to conduct independent research within a defined area of investigation that relates to the development and/or testing of novel approaches related to Hemostasis and Thrombosis* History of sustained productivity as evidenced by citations in high caliber peer-reviewed academic literature over sustained period (e.g., author's h index metric.)* A strong record of academic excellence/achievement and funding as an independent investigator and willingness to work in a collaborative fashion to expand and strengthen current collaborations with investigators from other divisions and departments at Emory, Georgia Tech, Georgia State and the Morehouse School of Medicine.* A strong history of mentorship of trainees and faculty to support growth in research and scholarship.

Salary and rank of Associate or Professor at the Emory University School of Medicine will be commensurate with experience and accomplishment. This position will have the opportunity to engage in clinical service and will have dedicated time for administrative duties.

The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is a national leader among childhood cancer, hematology, and blood and marrow transplant programs. Our pediatric hematology program is one of the largest in the country (including over 2,000 active patients with sickle cell disease, and 600 with bleeding or clotting disorders). In 2021, we were recognized as one of the top 6 childhood cancer centers in the country by U.S. News and World Report, the Aflac Cancer Center treats more than 500 new cancer patients each year. Our center has more than 115 faculty and in 2020 generated $21.5 million in extramural funding including more than $12.3M from the NIH.
