Provides vision and direction for a patient care unit dedicated patient population or service line department. Is responsible for planning, implementing, communicating evaluating and coordinating patient care unit operations.   Provides direction, in collaboration with other organizational leadership, for the areas of operations, service, clinical and fiscal within area(s) of responsibility. Works in partnership with the Executive Director, Medical Directors, Advanced Practice Nurses and other administrative and physician leaders, to ensure safe, high quality and seamless care is delivered throughout the patient experience.  Is responsible for planning, implementing, communicating evaluating and coordinating patient care unit and other department operations.

The MACC Fund Center inpatient unit is a 24-bed unit, caring for patients with hematologic or oncologic disorders, or for those patients undergoing blood and marrow transplant.  Patient length of stay averages 4-5 days for hematology/oncology patients, and 38-40 days for blood and marrow transplant patients.  Common nursing care includes administering multiple PO and IV medications, chemotherapy, blood products, and immune globulin.  Most patients have central venous line access.  Pain management (acute and chronic) and the use of Patient Controlled Analgesia are common for blood and marrow transplant patients and patients with sickle cell disease.

  • Requires a professional level of knowledge in the field of nursing and/or management that is acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.  Master's Degree required in Nursing, Business Administration, Health Care Administration or related field.  Consideration will be given to those actively working toward their Master's degree with an expected graduation date within the two years. 
  • Current CPR certification – Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is preferred.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Wisconsin.
  • Three years clinical experience. 
  • Supervisory or related leadership experience preferred.
  • Certification in health care or nursing leadership highly recommended. (ACHE-American College of Healthcare Executives, NEA-Nursing Executive-Advanced, CENP-Certified in Executive Nursing Practice, CNML-Certification for Nurse Managers & Leaders).
  • Analytical and statistical skills necessary to develop and monitor unit operating and personnel budgets.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and problem solving abilities in order to resolve complex clinical, systems and personnel problems and issues which affect the unit and inpatient departments.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills which frequently involve collaborating with organizational team members. 
  • Must be able to assume 24 hour accountability for unit coverage.
