Description

The College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Austin is dedicated to providing exemplary education, training, research, and professional development for Pharm.D. students, graduate students, and postgraduates; to advance discovery, innovation, and patient care. To help advance this mission, we are seeking a distinguished applicant to fill one professional-track (non-tenure), clinical faculty position at the rank of assistant, associate, or professor (depending on qualifications) for a full-time Oncology faculty position. This position is located in Austin, Texas and will be co-funded with the Dell Medical School (DMS) LIVESTRONG Cancer Institute (LCI) and The College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Austin with a practice site at LCI's clinic within University of Texas Health Austin (UTHA). The mission of the LCI is to radically improve people's cancer experience and quality of life. Central to LCI's approach is the operationalization of the “CaLM Clinic,” which is a comprehensive, patient-centered clinical and supportive ambulatory service with wraparound care for patients and their loved ones in all phases of the cancer journey. CaLM, (“Cancer Life reiMagined”) is an oncology medical home approach that integrates high acuity, sub-specialty clinical cancer care with comprehensive, ongoing supportive care for patients and caregivers.

The successful applicant will facilitate practice laboratories, provide classroom instruction, mentor, and supervise clinical clerkships for students in the Pharm.D. program. Clinical service supporting resident and Pharm.D. student education as well as the operational goals of LCI clinic is expected. The successful individual will have the opportunity to lead efforts and collaborate on research and scholarship. While on-site at LCI, faculty members will be embedded in the multidisciplinary team to support research and provide care to patients.

At the clinic, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing comprehensive medication management services, patient/staff education, and research. The successful applicant will be responsible for improving the patient's cancer treatment experience, safety, achieving positive clinical outcomes, and must have in-depth knowledge of treatment of the oncology patient and oncology therapeutics and experience developing collaborative practice agreements. In addition, this role will also support developing clinical trials/Phase I Program at LCI. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the assessment and management of drug related toxicities, drug-drug interactions, adherence to clinical protocols, and participate in an interprofessional clinical research team.

Faculty members will provide service to the college, clinic, university, and broader professional community. The primary practice focus of this position is patients of the LCI. Candidates with a strong background in oncology is preferred. The faculty member will be expected to supervise pharmacy students and residents to help them develop the clinical skills to care for oncology patients. The successful individual will have interests in developing interprofessional collaborations to advance pharmacy practice, research, and scholarship. Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • an earned Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy,
  • be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Texas,
  • have successfully completed a specialty practice residency or equivalent experience by the start date (July 1, 2023),
  • and be able to demonstrate effective teaching.
