Job Summary

Geisinger's Cancer Institute is seeking an energetic Advanced Practitioner Provider (APP) to join our inpatient cancer team at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) in Danville, PA. This highly motivated APP will be joining a team of 7 other experienced APPs as well as fellows in a dynamic inpatient learning environment. This exciting career involves care of patients on our malignant hematology inpatient service line involving acute leukemia, high grade lymphoma, allo/auto bone marrow transplant (BMT) patients, as well as coverage of our oncology consult service. The optimal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience as an APP in a cancer or adult medicine field, preferably in the inpatient setting.This individual will perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the physician, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to establish a diagnosis and to plan therapy. Assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the physician. APP will ultimately be an advocate in the medical care system serving as confidant, advisor, and liaison between the patient and physician.

Job Duties

• Performs initial assessment and triage of patients based on information obtained pertinent to presenting condition.
• Keeps track of pertinent procedure and laboratory results, discusses with physician, and returns call to family and patient regarding the results and plans.
• Assists with arranging appropriate follow-up for the patients in coordination with the outpatient cancer institute team.
• Answers and returns phone calls from established patients on off hours as needed.
• Participate with joints rounds with attending and fellows.
• Obtains or assists in the preauthorization process for medications, diagnostic studies, and treatments as time allows.
• Once competent, will perform bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures.
• Involvement in BMT meetings and implementing BMT policies and procedures.
• Assistance in implementing Geisinger and/or Cancer institute special initiatives.

Work is typically performed in a clinical inpatient environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. Position Details

Position specifics:

-Max of 14 shifts/month, typically in a 1 week on/1 week off schedule

-12 hours shifts (7:00p-7:00a/7:00a-7:00p)

-Night shift rotation w night incentive

-Coverage to include weekends and holidays

Education

Master's Degree-Physician Assistant (Required), Master's Degree-Nurse Practitioner (Required)

Experience

Certification(s) and License(s)

Certified Physician Assistant - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body
