SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Working as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Penn State Health, you are the heart and backbone of patient care. The Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN II will provide direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of patients under the direction of a registered nurse of provider. The LPN II will observe, report and record medical information and nursing care provided in the electronic medical record. The LPN II will instruct patients and families according to the teaching plans. The LPN II will communicate with the healthcare team to facilitate the coordination of individualized patient care.

The 5 Acute Care (Surgical) Unit is a 47-bed acute care unit where nurses care for patients from a variety of medical and surgical specialties. Medical specialties include gastroenterology, bariatrics, hematology/oncology and gynecology oncology. Surgical specialties include colon and rectal, emergency general surgery, bariatric, transplant, neurosurgery and surgical oncology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing School with current licensure to practice in Pennsylvania or licensure eligibility required.

One (1) year of LPN experience required.

Basic Life Support (BLS) required prior to completion of orientation.
