The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Pediatrics, seeks an outstanding pediatric hematologist to join the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

The successful candidate will provide care to children with cancer and blood disorders with an emphasis on non-malignant hematology and outreach efforts and will participate in the continued growth of clinical and translational research that is fundamentally important as we strive to improve outcomes for children with these diseases. Embedded within Pediatric Hematology/Oncology are several high-profile clinical programs such as the state-funded Sickle Cell Program, the Hemostasis Thrombosis program within which is the 340B-funded Hemophilia Treatment Center and the Young Women’ s Hematology Program. In addition, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at UT Southwestern is the lead site for the North Texas Sickle Cell Disease Clinical Trial Unit. The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology has five non-malignant hematologists with national reputations as clinicians and clinician-scientists, and an additional four hematology-focused advanced practice providers with niche-focused expertise. Candidates must have strong clinical and scholarly backgrounds, outstanding teaching skills, experience in basic, clinical, or translational research.

While the program has broad interests and many potential opportunities for the successful candidate in non-malignant hematology, particular areas of interest include a) focused clinical expertise on sickle cell disease and hemoglobinopathies; b) hemostatic and thrombotic disorders; c) red cell disorders and iron biology; d) experience in implementing and leading innovative therapeutic clinical trials in hematology; d) education with a focus on teaching techniques, evidence-based teaching strategies, medical education scholarship, and contributing to career development of trainees.

The appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas and must be board certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.  Beyond the hematology group, the successful candidate will join a large and growing Hematology/Oncology Division with robust clinical, research, and educational programs consisting of 29 faculty members. He or she will enjoy the exceptionally rich biomedical research enterprise at UT Southwestern Medical Center, including the brand new School of Public Health,
Biomedical Engineering Program, NCI-designated Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, the McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development, the Green Center for Systems Biology, and the Children’ s Medical Center Research Institute. Competitive start-up packages and compensation/benefits will be provided. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than full-time status.

Clinical facilities include the Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’ s Health, Dallas, which is adjacent to UT Southwestern Medical Center, as well as Children’s Health Plano and UT Southwestern Medical Center Frisco. As one of the nation’s largest pediatric cancer and blood disease programs (approximately 300 new oncology and over 700 new hematology patients per year) in the nation’ s fourth-largest metropolitan area, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center offers a superb milieu for career development.

Potential candidates should apply online at https://jobs.utsouthwestern.edu/ (search for Job #617261) and upload a curriculum vitae and a letter of interest.
