The pediatric hematology/oncology division at Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH) has an opening for a fourth-year fellow in sarcoma for the 2023-2024 academic year.  This program is designed to allow individuals who have completed a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship program an additional year of focused training with an emphasis on understanding the biologic factors that drive tumor development, impact outcomes, and influence new agent use for sarcoma patients.  Fellows receive intensive, individualized attention from a team of experienced and devoted faculty members to help them prepare a clinical and research training portfolio that allows them to compete for academically oriented faculty positions.  In addition to the hematology/oncology faculty, excellent subspecialty support in pediatric surgery, orthopedic-oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and radiology provide a true multi-disciplinary experience. The fellow also has the opportunity to spend time with experts at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and participates in teaching medical students and residents.  The program offers a balanced curriculum between clinical and research time and is designed to allow flexibility to meet the needs of individual trainees.

With over 1.4 million visits and over $100 million in charity care annually, Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the largest pediatric institutions in the United States.  In addition, it is part of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center and is one of the top 5 funded freestanding pediatric institutions in the country.  The base hematology/oncology fellowship takes 4 fellows annually, and in 2021 was awarded a T32 to support fellows with a particular interest in developing a laboratory based scientific career.  Finally, Columbus is a growing, diverse midwestern city with a plethora of activities, outstanding schools, and an outstanding cost of living!

Requirements

Applicants for the sarcoma fellowship must be eligible to obtain an Ohio medical license and have successfully completed an ACGME- accredited Pediatric Residency and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellowship and be Board Certified in General Pediatrics and at least Board Eligible in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Application:

Please submit the following to be considered for an interview:

  • 2 letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the applicant’s most recent program director
  • Current and updated CV
  • Brief statement describing career goals
