The Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants for the position of Acute Care Oncologist. Anticipated Start Date Spring 2023.

The Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Seattle Children’s Hospital provides a rich and collaborative environment for basic, clinical, and translational research and boasts a diverse faculty. The Oncology Program is an integral component of the Cancer & Blood Disorders Center, and currently includes 36 faculty members, 9 fellows as well as 27 advance practice providers. Ideal candidates will have a strong record of demonstrated clinical expertise caring for pediatric hematology patients. The Cancer & Blood Disorders Center has close affiliations with research investigators within the Seattle Children’s Research Institute, the Fred Hutch Cancer Center, and the University of Washington, and a willingness to collaborate across departmental or center boundaries is essential.

  • This position will devote majority of effort to clinical responsibilities in the Cancer & Blood Disorders Center at Seattle Children’s Hospital in inpatient care of sick children.
  • Responsibilities include providing in-hospital overnight attending care for medical issues arising in Hematology, Oncology, and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) patients, and supervision and clinical teaching of residents.
  • Acute Care Oncology appointments also include non-clinical Academic Service Time for clinical education, Quality Improvement (QI) research, and administrative duties. At times, formal coursework is available for Acute Care Oncologists interested in developing their QI and teaching skills.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

This position will be full-time at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor and serve as an Acute Care Oncology attending physician.  Like all clinical faculty, Acute Care Oncology attending positions have a 12 month service period and are reappointed on an annual basis. Depending on availability, Acute Care Oncology attendings may also have the opportunity to assume some daytime clinical duties in their second year and beyond.

Clinical Assistant and Clinical Associate Professors hold annual appointments that align with a 12 month service period (July 1 - June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July - June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The successful Candidate will have:

  • MD, DO, or foreign equivalent degree,
  • Pediatric board certification, and sub board-eligibility/board-certification in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter and a diversity statement. The diversity statement should address current and/or future commitments to and experiences with equity, diversity, and inclusion.

University of Washington is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, genetic information, gender identity or expression, age, disability, or protected veteran status.
