The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Department of Pediatrics, Arkansas Children’s, and the Arkansas Children’s Research Institute in collaboration with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute are seeking exceptional candidates for tenure-track faculty research positions in areas including pediatric hematologic malignancies, solid tumors and cancer immunology. Individuals with expertise in preclinical models, epigenomics, systems level approaches, and translational science are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have an MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent and 2-3 years of postdoctoral research experience. Priority will be given to exceptionally qualified junior investigators as well as mid-career investigators with active extramural funding. Applicants should have a strong record of recent accomplishments as a postdoctoral fellow or sustained productivity as an established faculty member with high impact publications and extramural funding.

Successful applicants will join a vibrant research environment at the Arkansas Children’s Research Institute (ACRI), a not-for-profit research center associated with Arkansas Children’s Hospital and affiliated with UAMS in Little Rock, Arkansas. ACRI is a 200,000 ft2 state-of-the-art research center with an AALAC accredited animal facility, pre and post-award services, research core facilities, database and biostatistical services, and a dedicated Pediatric Clinical Research Unit located within Arkansas Children’s main hospital building in close proximity to ancillary hospital services. Currently all ACRI researchers are UAMS faculty with appointments within the UAMS College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Public Health, College of Health-Related Professions, or the College of Pharmacy. Tenure track faculty positions for this role will be provided in the Department of Pediatrics within the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and will be eligible for participation in the departmental research incentive plan. The UAMS Department of Pediatrics is the largest department in the College of Medicine and includes 276 primary faculty in 26 sections and over 200 secondary faculty. The department has a new dedicated Office of Research designed to integrate research activities across the campus. Arkansas Children’s is a state-wide pediatric health system which includes a 336-bed hospital in Little Rock, a 24-bed hospital in Springdale, the Arkansas Children's Care Network throughout the state, a dedicated Arkansas Children’s Foundation and the robust free-standing Arkansas Children’s Research Institute. The Little Rock campus spans 36 city blocks and has a floor space of over 2,000,000 square feet.

Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is one of the largest clinical sections in the Department of Pediatrics. There are currently 13 faculty members, with an additional BMT physician who has been recruited and will join in July, 2022. There is an active oncology program which sees over 100 new cancer patients each year. It is an active participant in the Children’s Oncology Group, as well as members of early drug treatment consortia such as POETIC, BCC, and PedAL. We have a FACT accredited stem cell transplant program and have recently started an Allogeneic BMT program in July, 2021. We also have been approved to start delivering CAR-T therapy for patients with relapsed/refractory B lineage ALL. We also have a very active benign hematology program with a large population of hemoglobinopathy patients, a Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center, a bone marrow failure program, and a large regional program for Vascular Anomalies. We have active clinical research activities in all of our clinical programs, with a dedicated team of CRA’s and research nurses.

The practice is located in Little Rock, Arkansas. Little Rock has a population range of 730,000 and is centrally located and has beautiful scenery, museums and cultural events, parks, gourmet dining, and nightlife. Little Rock also offers affordable housing in great neighborhoods and low cost of living. The 34-mile Arkansas River Trail system connects Pinnacle Mountain, Big Dam Bridge, Two Rivers Bridge and provides opportunities for cycling, jogging, walking, hiking and other outdoor activities. Large enough to be culturally diverse and small enough to encourage a feeling of community.

This recruitment opportunity is in partnership with the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, which is the only cancer center in the state of Arkansas with a robust cancer research portfolio treating over 2,500 new cancer patients a year and supporting nearly 270 cancer clinical trials. This recruiting aligns with the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute’s efforts to attain NCI Designation.

Applicants must be able to work in a team environment.

ACRI and UAMS are both an inclusive Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer of individuals with disabilities and protected veterans and are committed to excellence.
