This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, a student loan reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirement, and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. Recruitment/Relocation incentive may be authorized to a highly qualified candidate. This position will be in the Medical service and will report directly to the Medical Sub-specialty NOS Supervisor, who in turn will report to the Chief of Medicine. The Hematology/Oncology Physician shall provide care at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center. All labor and services shall be provided including management, supervision, teaching, consultations and reports. Performance shall be according to the requirements contained in this functional statement and professional standards of The Joint Commission. Responsibilities will Include: Physician's clinical activity shall be a function of the VAMC Executive Committee of the Medical Staff clinical privileging process. Provides direct hands-on patient care including evaluation and treatment of the hematology/oncology patients, determination whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting, and management of chronic disease. Comprehensive initial medical/psychosocial history and physical examination Order appropriate diagnostic tests and work-up Review and interpret diagnostic tests and take appropriate action Formulate and record diagnostic impressions Refer patients with appropriate consultations both within the VA and in the community Provide clinical guidance to patients, families and other heath care providers over the phone, secure messaging or through the mail to coordinate health care, educate and give advice Ensure accurate documentation of medical assessments, interactions and observations. Responsible for supervising and teaching medical residents and students. May be required to oversee mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants Enter orders into CPRS for medications, consults, testing etc. Demonstrates current clinical practice Attend Medical Center and community meetings, seminars, conferences Establishes inter-personal and intra-departmental relationships to enhance optimal patient care Demonstrates competent and effective oral and written communication and provides appropriate patient/family member teaching and education. Maintains familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and procedures, ensuring the use of antiseptic methods of all in-clinic procedures Other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00a - 4:30p Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
