Pediatric Quality Officer with Pediatric Critical Care Experience needed at Carilion Children's Hospital, Roanoke, VA

Carilion Children’s Hospital is recruiting a pediatric Intensivist for a newly expanded position in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. This full-time position will replace a current part-time position and add expanded quality services to the balance of the duties. The position will include half clinical and half quality officer responsibilities. The Children’s Hospital is a hospital within a hospital model centrally located in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH). CRMH is a Level One, 763 bed, trauma and academic/tertiary care center serving Southwest Virginia with the only pediatric intensive care and dedicated pediatric unit along with Level 1 pediatric trauma center for the region. The PICU is an 8 bed unit with approximately 500 admissions per year. The attending team provides coverage for the PICU, dedicated NeoPeds Transport team, sedation services and inpatient quality. The team is in the process of starting a recurrent Pediatric Fundamentals of Critical Care (PFCCM) course at Carilion in the next few months.

Carilion Children’s Hospital includes an 8-bed PICU, 22-bed inpatient pediatric ward, 60-bed NICU/intermediate nursery and dedicated pediatric emergency room area. Serving as the tertiary referral center for 185,000 children in Southwest Virginia, the facility provides a full range of critical care services with the exception of open heart, ECMO and transplant services. The system is well served with fellowship trained sub-specialists including pediatric anesthesiology, cardiology, endocrinology, developmental pediatrics, gastroenterology, genetics, hematology/oncology, neonatology, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pulmonology, psychiatry and psychology, radiology, and surgery.

Qualifications include completion of an ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program and pediatric critical care medicine fellowship. Applicants must be ABMS/AOA-BE/BC in pediatric critical care medicine. Prior quality experience or training strongly desired.  Sedation skills and experience would be of great benefit to the team. Experience instructing the PFCCM course is a plus.  Must possess interest and enthusiasm for clinical service and teaching residents and medical students.

Education and research activities and opportunities abound through our academic alliances with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the Virginia Tech Carilion Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, and Virginia Tech.  Carilion Clinic maintains an active Office of Sponsored Projects to support and encourage the development of physicians to develop and grown clinical research projects. Research activity is encouraged and supported at Virginia Tech Carilion Clinic's Fralin Research Institute.

Carilion Clinic with over 732 physicians representing over 77 specialties is the largest not-for-profit physician led multi-specialty clinic in western Virginia, with 7 hospitals, 225+ clinics, and 25 GME programs affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. The Children's Hospital established Pediatric Residency Program offers an opportunity to mentor and teach pediatric learners from many different levels. The PICU team includes second and third year pediatric residents as well as third year emergency medicine residents. The attendings are also involved with didactic resident education.  This position carries a faculty appointment with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
