We’re seeking a board-certified pediatric neuro-oncologist to join the team at Valley Children’s Healthcare, one of the largest pediatric healthcare networks in the country, located in Madera, California.
The ideal candidate will have three or more years of post-fellowship experience and will work collaboratively with the pediatric hematology-oncology team of 11 physicians, 5 nurse practitioners as well as pediatric subspecialists within the Neuroscience Center to treat Valley Children’s growing volume of patients. This candidate will join Dr. David Samuel, a Pediatric Neuro-Oncologist with extensive training and experience in treating children with brain tumors, having completed fellowships in Pediatric Neuro-Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. The role will be focused 80-90% in Neuro-Oncology with 10-20% general Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.
More than 65 years ago, five young mothers imagined building a hospital just for kids in California’s Central Valley. The mothers’ dream not only expanded into a 358-bed free-standing children’s hospital with nationally recognized physicians and programs, it is now an entire healthcare network that serves 12-counties and more than 1.3 million children in the heart of California.
Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is one of the leading pediatric cancer centers on the West Coast. The center includes an outpatient unit and a fully-equipped 36-bed inpatient unit, Starship Craycroft. Approximately 450 children are currently enrolled in Children’s Oncology Group (COG) studies at Valley Children’s. Valley Children’s has consistently been in the top 5-8% across all COG institutions for enrollment in therapeutic and non-therapeutic trials. As an active member of COG and a participant in many industry-sponsored clinical trials, patients are offered access to 95 open clinical trials to treat a variety of pediatric cancers. With an average of around 40 children newly diagnosed with CNS tumors annually, the Neuro-Oncology program at Valley Children’s continues to grow and is well supported with all the affiliated specialties of Neuro-Oncology and a Nurse Navigator.
Joining Valley Children’s growing Pediatric Hematology-Oncology team also provides the incredible opportunity to live in the only city in the country with three U.S. National Parks in its backyard, and within easy driving distance to California’s Pacific Coast, the Napa and Sonoma wine regions, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe and Los Angeles. Outdoor enthusiasts will feel they have truly found home here with the majestic splendor of Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks within an hour and a half of the hospital. And when you’re not exploring the Sierra Nevada mountains, Pacific Coast or all of the amenities offered in the L.A. and Bay Areas, you’ll enjoy residing in a beautiful, affordable area with excellent schools, neighborhoods and an exceptional quality of life.
