Westchester Medical Center has an immediate opening for a Second Year Fellowship position in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology beginning July 2019. Our ACGME accredited program is focused on preparing physicians for a successful career in academic Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and/or Stem Cell Transplantation. The Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology is comprised of both inpatient and outpatient services located at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center and offers a variety of programs including an active COG Pediatric Oncology Program; state of the art cellular therapies and novel therapeutics; a FACT, COG and NMDP accredited Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Program; state of the art Hematologic Malignancies Program; a multidisciplinary Solid Tumor Program; a multidisciplinary Neuro-Oncology Program; a comprehensive Sickle Cell Program; a comprehensive Pediatric Hemostasis and Thrombosis Program and multidisciplinary Wellness & Survivorship Program.
Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center is a world-class, all-specialty pediatric hospital offering the most advanced pediatric care available in an environment where the creative surroundings are a functional part of the healing process. The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation Laboratory is home to over 30 years of cutting-edge, world-renowned research. Fellows have the opportunity to train in the PCRF lab where they learn skills to provide the most advanced treatment options for patients. By aligning vast clinical experience with unmatched scientific expertise, the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation Laboratory centers on six areas of groundbreaking research:
Cancer genetics and treatment of childhood adolescent hematological malignancies
Genetic re-engineering of immune cells to enhance cellular cancer immunotherapy
Tumor immunology and target identification for humoral (body-fluid) immunotherapy
Stem cell biology, cancer stem cells and regenerative therapy
Targeted therapy for childhood, adolescent and young adult tumors
Translational (bench to bedside) therapeutic consortiums for childhood and adolescent cancer therapy
In addition, our laboratory has developed several national translational research consortiums focusing on Stem Cell Transplantation for high-risk patients with Acute Leukemia, Lymphoma cell therapy, Pediatric Sarcoma cell therapy, Familial Stem Cell Transplantation for sickle cell disease, and non-Hodgkin Lymphoma translational research and treatment. Due to our “bench to bedside and back” research, children travel from across the country, and the world, to receive treatment at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital.
We are recruiting for a second or third year clinical/research fellow for July 2019. Fellowship trainees interact with experienced faculty and mentors as well as a program director with over 30 years directing fellowship training programs. Fellows have access to a wide range of basic science, clinical and translational research opportunities through our affiliation with the New York Medical College School of Health Sciences as well as six basic science graduate programs with options for MPH, MS and/or PhD degrees.
