We're seeking a Division Chief of Pediatric Oncology to lead a team of eleven Pediatric Oncologists at CHOC Children’s growing Hyundai Cancer Institute in picturesque Orange County, California.
CHOC Children’s is ranked as one of the top pediatric cancer programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The Hyundai Cancer Institute specializes in providing patients from infants to young adults the latest pediatric cancer treatments by nationally recognized medical specialists. Physicians and staff are dedicated not just to treating cancer, but also the needs of the whole child: emotional, spiritual and physical. This is an incredible opportunity to represent an institution leading cutting-edge genomic research to better understand cancer in children and teens, and increase the cure rate for pediatric cancer. Specialized treatment programs are offered for bone and soft tissue sarcoma, solid tumor histiocytosis, neuro-oncology, adolescent and young adult cancers, lymphoma, leukemia, recurrent and refractory cancers, blood and marrow transplant and after-cancer survivorship.
As Division Chief at the Hyundai Cancer Institute, you will lead one of only 21 pediatric cancer programs in North America – and the only hospital in the Southwestern United States – that offers Phase 1 clinical trials through the Children’s Oncology Group. CHOC also offers one of the only dedicated adolescent and young adult cancer treatment programs in the country. The hospital’s blood marrow transplant program is the only pediatric BMT program in Orange County. CHOC also has two teams of highly trained leukemia specialists – one team for standard to high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and another team to treat very-high-risk ALL and acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
The ideal candidate will be a leader in the field of pediatric oncology. The Division Chief will have 40 to 50 percent administrative time and 50 to 60 percent clinical time. Candidates with an interest in solid tumors or bone marrow transplants are desirable, but not required for consideration. The successful candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment commensurate with experience with the University of California Irvine School of Medicine. CHOC Children’s is also seeking to expand its pediatric oncology program to surrounding communities, so this an excellent opportunity to lead the growth of a nationally recognized pediatric cancer team.
CHOC Children’s is proud to be ranked among the nation's best children's hospitals by U.S. News & World Report in 2017-2018 with recognition in 7 specialties, to be among only 7% of U.S. hospitals awarded Magnet designation for nursing excellence, to have been named to The Leapfrog Group’s 2015 Top Children’s Hospitals list for safety and quality, and to be recognized by Press Ganey for excellence in physician engagement with families.
