The Department of Pediatrics, Rhode Island Hospital (RIH)/Hasbro Children’s Hospital (HCH) and Alpert Medical School of Brown University are excited to announce A PEDIATRIC HEMATOLOGIST faculty position. The successful applicant will be based at HCH in Providence, RI. Responsibilities include hematology patient care and program development, with cross coverage for oncology care when on call, teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents and pediatric hematology/oncology fellows, and the pursuit of career goals in clinical or laboratory research, or education. This appointment would be on the clinician-educator track.
HCH is the only pediatric tertiary care center in RI and serves as the primary pediatric teaching facility for the Medical School. Clinically, multidisciplinary comprehensive programs include hemophilia and bleeding disorders, sickle cell disease and other hemoglobinopathies, leukemia/lymphoma, solid tumors, neuro-oncology, childhood cancer survivorship, and adolescent and young adult oncology. There is a 340B supported regional hemophilia program that enhances strong pediatric and adult programs, with 34 pediatric and 65 adult patients. The New England Pediatric Sickle Cell Consortium is based in Hasbro, where there are 120 patients with sickle cell disease and 12 with thalassemia diseases. It is actively involved in regional and national grants and research. The Division has a very well reputed, ACGME-accredited pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship program accepting one new fellow each year for three-year fellowships. HCH supports Pediatric, Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, and Pediatric/ Psychiatry/Pediatric Psychiatry residency programs.
The candidate would join a growing division, currently with 5 full-time faculty, 5 nurse practitioners/ physician's assistant, and a fully staffed multidisciplinary team that ensures very high quality, family-focused care. There is an extensive psychosocial support program for patients and families.
Clinical, correlative and translational laboratory research efforts will be supported. The position will be afforded protected time for research as appropriate to the successful applicant’s interests and experience. Consideration will be given to any appropriately trained individual who would be excited to join a dynamic program with an opportunity to grow further in his/her own particular area of interest. The position will include opportunities for administrative and leadership positions within the division.
Minimum requirements include board eligibility or certification in Pediatric Hematology/ Oncology, a strong clinical background and interest in one or more aspects of pediatric hematology and excellence in patient care and teaching.
